In Memorium
Paul McFarlane
April 20 1942 - March 2 2006

With great sadness I wish to inform everyone that Paul McFarlane passed away peacefully this afternoon at 2.30 pm.

Sally has told me that cremation will take place and that in a couple of weeks there will be a memorial service for him at a church in Hamilton. When the details are in place I will let every one know.

The service for Paul will be on Thursday March 23rd at 11am at St. Mary's Anglican Church at 1131 King St. East in Hamilton. It is at the corner of King St. and Barons two blocks east of Kenilworth. A reception will be held in the church after the service.

Paul was a legend when I was a kid. There were three of us, myself, Mike Zawalick and Cameron Todd who would as young teenagers, ride our bicycles from the east end of Burlington to Hamilton Mountain just to go to "The Bubble Nest", Paul's Tropical fish store.

Paul knew more about fish than anybody we'd ever met. He could not be stumped. But moreso, he was one of the kindest, most gentle people we'd ever run into. In the grown up world of sometime caustic personalitues, Paul treated us like people, not kids; he was the most approachable grownup in fish circles we'd ever met. I've met many people in the tropical fish world, but I'll always remember Paul as a nice man, somebody to look up to and act like.

If I ever grow up to be half the man Paul was, I'll consider it a lifetime achievement. My personal sense of loss upon hearing of his demise is profound.
